Bill Thetford was a professional colleague of Helen Schucman’s and assisted her throughout the scribing process by typing her shorthand notes, asking clarifying questions and overall encouraging her in what was apparently a personally intense process. Thetford is also credited with asking the question which instantiated the scribing process: facing the challenge of combative egos, he said to Helen that there must be another way and she agreed to help him find it. In this sense, the course can be seen as a loving answer to Thetford’s exasperated cry of pain and frustration. It is a collaborative and creatively loving response to a sincere cry for love.
