Happy dream is a phrase that indicates how we wake up from the dream of separation. We don’t come to all at once; rather, in the context of separation – that is, in the context of being a body in a world – we become happier and happier. We see more and more evidence of our innocence; we become more and more interested in helping our brothers and sisters, knowing that only by making them joyful can we be truly joyful. As our lives are transformed, we become increasingly open to the subtle presence of God in our mind. We begin to lose interest in the differences that make up the world, and give ourselves entirely to communing with the light that is within, which represents our Creator and Source. The Happy Dream is the end of separation, and the beginning of our return home. While it too will be forgotten upon awakening, it nevertheless serves as a temporary model of Heaven inspiring our commitment to understanding, practice and service.
