Level Confusion reflects the assumption that levels of spirit and body/world are causally correlated so that what occurs on one level must have an effect on the other. In fact, the only level that is real is mind, which is also the level of spirit. Separation produces the illusion of a self and world but no matter how persuasive and real these seem, they always remain illusions and illusions cannot have effects. Thus, if we are struggling with a co-worker, the solution is not to be more Christ-like at the level of form, but rather to shift our thinking at the level of mind. When we do this, we realize that the problem is with how we are seeing – specifically, that we are perceiving differences which must lead to separate interests. The decision to think with God is the realization that the separation did not occur and the illusions produced by our mistaken belief are not real either. There is nothing to do at the level of the body and the world, and only one thing to do at the level of spirit, which is love our brothers and sisters as our own self, because that is what they – and we – are.
