Marianne Williamson is a popular teacher of A Course in Miracles. Her early work – especially A Return to Love – relied on the course more than her later work. Williamson was often challenged – sometimes in legal settings – for utilizing ACIM ideas in ways that some felt were inconsistent with its teaching, especially with respect to its metaphysics. Williamson’s teaching emphasizes love over fear and does not shy away from bodily and worldly experiences. The popularity of her work – and the persona that attends her relative fame – can obscure the fact that she is a powerful and effective witness for the course’s ability to radically alter our understanding of who and what we are in truth. Dismissing her usually reflects a misunderstanding of the way ACIM generalizes its teaching to encompass the whole of our living.
