The earliest draft of A Course in Miracles are the notes which Helen Schucman took. Listening to what she called “the Voice” (and which can clearly be identified with Jesus), and using a sort of private shorthand, she wrote down what she heard the Voice say. She later read the notes to Bill Thetford who typed them up. Some but not all of the notes have been published; it was never Helen’s intention that the notes be made public. The early drafts – including the notes – are confusing, especially in the early stages when Helen was still finding the right voice for the material.
